Our volcano experiment

Here we are making our Volcanoes.

First we used cardboard, newspaper, masking tape and mod rock

Then we painted them with brown, grey and black paint

Then we took them outside. It was really windy!

We used vinegar, orange food colouring, glitter and bicarbonate soda to make them erupt!

We investigated how far the lava would spread depending on the shape of the volcanoe. We found out that the lower, flat  volcano (shield volcano) allowed the lava to spread further.

How to survive an earthquake advice.

We have been writing about how to survive during an earthquake.

The first step is to drop to the floor, cover our heads with our desks and then hold on to the table legs.

Here we are practising

Leena is holding on!

They have dropped to the floor, found over and now their holding on!

Ravens have been making some fantastic natural disaster projects.

Here is Lexi's amazing volcano cake. To see other projects click here

Our fractions investigation

In Year 4 we have been learning about equivalent fractions.

We have been thinking about different ways of representing fractions to help us understand how some fractions are equivalent (the same)

We have used diagrams, models, differing formal methods, such as division and mental reasoning

We have been using bar models

We have been proving that our methods work

We have been using Cuisenaire rods to represent fractions

Ravens water investigation

In Ravens we have been investigating the different states of water. We have been making clouds by evaporating warm water, and cooling the water down by using ice to make condensation, forming water vapour to make a cloud.

We also investigated precipitation by dropping food colouring into a shaving foam cloud. we investigated how much blue food dye we would need for the cloud to become heavy, consequently the shaving foam cloud became saturated with blue food dye, then the blue dye is released in the form of rain (precipitation)

Fractions of an amount

Year 4 have been learning about how to find the fraction of an amount

Here is how we do it

School football

Today, we had our first home game. We were against a team who are unbeaten in the league (better than Man City). In the first half, we fought hard even scoring a goal although this was disallowed. The first half ended 0-0 which was a fantastic achievement. Unfortunately, our opponent scored early in the second half which was disheartening (maybe we could do with half time oranges next time). The match ended 0-3 while this wasn't the result we would have hoped for the boys did Iveson proud in their first ever home game.

Cup Football

Today, we played our first cup football match. It was a thrilling, hard fought battle which ended 3-3 after extra time. Although we led the game 3 times we were taken to penalties. Unfortunately, it was not our day and we ended up losing on penalties. The boys were brilliant and represented the school fantastically.

Fw: Website blog check photo permission

Miss Marshall was really impressed with Year 4 children who have made their own models of the colosseum. Aseel used clay and Lexi made a cake explaining 'I used the gold to so it looked like the light shining through the arches.' Impressive work and a super list of colosseum facts too!

Welcome to Year 4, and our Class Blog!

We have had an excellent first few weeks with our new Year 4 classes. We have got straight into things... busy, busy, busy!

We have posted a letter on the Iveson Website about the up-coming trip to Chester on the 6th October.

We need permission and payment from all students, returned to the Office as soon as possible.

This is a fantastic opportunity to enhance our learning about Roman Britain. We are all very excited.

Bring the answer to the Maths Challenge below to Mrs de Klerk by Monday (25th Sept)

and earn extra Dojos!

Maths Challenge

There are 4 number cards A, B, C and D. They each have a 4 digit number on.

Using the clues below, work out which card has which number.
